Zaldiva Inc. Becomes A Registered Auctioneering House, Significantly Enhancing Its 'Direct To E-Auction' Business
Zaldiva today announced its receipt from the state of Florida and all appropriate municipalities, their licenses to operate as a registered auctioneering house, significantly enhancing its International distribution system
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Zaldiva(TM), Inc. (XETRA: UZ8.DE) , a specialty and online distribution system wholesaler and retailer of new and vintage Pop Culture collectibles, comic books and memorabilia announced today that it has received its auctioneer's licenses for the state of Florida.
Recent transactions in Florida have caused a number of "E-Auction" or "Ebay drop-off" type companies to close up shop; some of whom have referred their clients to Zaldiva. Many small companies have found the costs and time involved in gaining these licenses to be prohibitive. Zaldiva sees the license as a monumental step in executing its business plan.
"Getting the license was very involved," said Nicole Leigh-van Coller, President of Zaldiva. "However it is something we absolutely needed if we were to continue expanding and reaching our goal of being a major distributor of collectible goods. Currently we have clients in over 23 countries due to our online efforts and now with being an auction house, it opens up all sorts of opportunities for our company and shareholders. We can now offer multiple channels of distribution for all our products on an international level. With the low U.S. dollar, our goods are relatively cheap for international buyers. This will enhance and speed up our turnover of products."
In anticipation of the licenses, Zaldiva has designed an entire marketing program to the South Florida business community for inventory and product liquidation services in addition to its regular business. Revenues from its current online efforts have been rivaling that of its 331 East Commercial Blvd model "brick and mortar" location. Both components are expected to continue to see significant revenue and cash flow increases.
"This aspect of our business model is significant to our company and its long-term goals as it not only offers businesses and individuals the ability to quickly reduce inventory levels in soft economic times, it diversifies the product offerings in our distribution system," said Leigh-van Coller. "In affect, it is another element that proves our business model as a distribution system and it also helps Zaldiva to thrive in recessions or slow economic times while opening up International markets to small businesses in South Florida immediately."
Zaldiva is a distribution system unique to the specialty retail industry, focusing its product orientation on the comics and collectibles genre. The company combines a highly visible brick and mortar location in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and an e-commerce website and portal (www.Zaldiva.com) which operates in conjunction with a series of ancillary websites in addition to its auction house capabilities. Zaldiva's current collection available electronically of classic, pop-culture and modern memorabilia can be seen at www.Zaldiva.com.

Eisner Award-winning cartoonist Darwyn Cooke brings four original graphic novels to IDW,
based on Richard Stark’s crime fiction series of “Parker” novels
(San Diego, July 24, 2008) IDW Publishing announced today that it will be releasing four original graphic novels created by Eisner-award winning comic book artist, writer and animator Darwyn Cooke. Based on the acclaimed “Parker” crime fiction series of novels by Richard Stark (pseudonym for renowned author Donald Westlake), the first of these graphic novels will be released by IDW in mid 2009. Many of Westlake’s books have been brought to the big screen, including Point Blank, The Hot Rock, and Payback. He also wrote the screenplay for Stephen Frears’ 1990 movie The Grifters.
Originally published in the 1960s, Stark’s novels featuring the Parker character - The Hunter, The Outfit, the Mourner and The Man with the Getaway Face - are tough and tautly composed. The Parker character is known as one of the most fascinating and compelling criminals in crime fiction. Lee Marvin played Parker in John Boorman’s film Point Blank.
Darwyn Cooke is the best-selling comics auteur who has been much lauded since he burst on the comics scene in 2000. His past projects include The Spirit and DC: The New Frontier, the latter of which was turned into a feature length animated film. “In his ruthlessness and unhesitating murderousness Parker is well up there with Simenon's tormented monsters and, especially, with Patricia Highsmith's Tom Ripley” according to Slate magazine.
“Working with Darwyn has been one of the highlights of my editing career; our sensibilities mesh on a lot of levels. It’s a true pleasure and privilege to be associated with him on this project,” says Scott Dunbier, IDW Publishing’s Special Projects Editor.
Fans will be delighted to hear that IDW is offering a set of three signature cards featuring original illustrations by Cooke - available only from specific locations at Comic-Con.
One card can be found at Darwyn Cooke’s booth (#2207), another at the IDW booth (#1705), and another at the 11:00 AM IDW panel on Saturday July 26 in Room 3. The cards are limited to 500 of each and will be available exclusively at Comic-Con.

IDW PUBLISHING RELEASES BEN TEMPLESMITH’S NEW MINISERIES, WELCOME TO HOXFORD
(San Diego, July 17, 2008) Werewolf necrophilia and talking rats are just a small part of the dark, creepy action in Ben Templesmith’s new miniseries, Welcome to Hoxford, debuting in August from IDW Publishing. The co-creator of 30 Days of Night (with writer Steve Niles), Templesmith has built quite a fan following in recent years, including critical and sales successes with titles he has both written and created artwork for, including Wormwood Gentleman Corpse and Singularity 7.
Written and illustrated by Templesmith, Welcome to Hoxford is a horrific new series that features a unique and nasty take on werewolves. In the debut issue, Raymond Delgado is the newest inmate at the Hoxford Correctional Facility and Mental Institution. He has no hope of release, parole, rehabilitation, or decent conversation. Ray hasn’t been taking his medication. No surprises there. On a good day, he’ll tell you he’s Zeus and only bite your arm off—literally. On a bad day, you won’t have time to scream to the prison guard for help. But Dr Jessica Ainley, his doctor for five years, wants to help Ray and can’t understand why the newly privatized, corporately-run prison won’t give her access to her patients. And why people are always transferred into Hoxford, but no records show anyone ever transferring back out.
“It’s odd,” said Templesmith. “But the whole reason this book exists is because my work has been banned from a few prisons. I’m told it’s among the darkest work I’ve ever done, and I don’t mean the amount of black ink I’ve been using.”
IDW will also release Templesmith’s The Art of Wormwood in August, the third such art book he has produced.
Welcome to Hoxford #1 will be available from Comic Book Retailers in August 2008.

IDW COLLECTS SNAKED - ITS MOST CONTROVERSIAL COMIC
\(San Diego, July 15, 2008) -- The SNAKED comic series, which IDW Publishing considers its most controversial comic series to date, is being collected in a new graphic novel with plenty of extras. A cleverly concocted political thriller, SNAKED tells the story of Bill Timmons, who is born with scales and a latent ability for bloody outburst... but when Timmons makes it to the high-profile political scene, he finds out who the *real* snakes are.
Conceived by author Clifford Meth and artist Rufus Dayglo, with cover art by Ashley Wood, the SNAKED graphic novel includes all three issues of the reality-based political thriller as well as the original short stories that inspired the series with illustrations from Dave "X-Men" Cockrum. In addition to never-before-seen art, there's also a new introduction by Gene Colan, the creator of "Blade."
SNAKED has been optioned by Elysium Films with Meth scripting.

IDW RELEASES DEVICE, VOL. 1: FANTASTIC CONTRAPTION
(San Diego, July 8, 2008) — Device, Volume 1: Fantastic Contraption celebrates the genius of invention and ingenuity with a showcase of works from an international roster of artists including—H.R. Giger, Ashley Wood, Stéphane Halleux, Viktor Koen, Christopher Conte, Gregory Brotherton, Mike Libby, Nemo Gould, and many others.
Accompanying the book’s release is an exhibition of these “fantastic contraptions” at the Device Gallery in La Jolla, California, running from July 19 – September 2. The exhibition, much like the book, will present a remarkable collection of artwork thematically exploring the relation of man and nature to machine.
“Fantastic Contraption is as much as an experience as it is an exhibition and sets the tone for the unique aesthetic of the Device Gallery says gallery co-owner Amy Brotherton. It’s like being transported in time to Leonardi Da Vinci’s workshop and while the work cannot easily be defined by a genre or medium, the sheer genius is undeniable.”
The tie binding this international ensemble of artists is a common interest in the “fantastic.” Mike Libby, for example, mixes “science fact with science fiction.” His featured work customizes real insects with antique watch parts and electronic components, creating Kafka-esque creatures that come in many different colors, shapes and sizes.
Another artist’s work on show is that of internationally acclaimed illustrator, concept designer and comic book artist Ashley Wood is also featured in Device, Volume 1. Ashley, who lives in Australia, has worked for most major publishing and entertainment companies and his illustrations have appeared in books, movies, magazines, comics, television and video games.
Greg Brotherton has constructed a “Migraine Machine” from wood and steel. He also builds giant robots, atomic weapons or so-called “Brotron death rays,” and designed much of Device, Volume 1. Like most of the other featured artists in the book, Brotherton has worked across many different media forms, and was formerly a commercial designer and illustrator for movies and comic books, before returning to pursue his own art fulltime, and opening La Jolla’s Device Gallery with his partner Amy Brotherton earlier this year. See www.devicegallery.com for further information.

IDW PUBLISHES AWARD WINNING ALL-AGES FANTASY THE DREAMLAND CHRONICLES
IN NEW MONTHLY FORMAT
(San Diego, July 8, 2008) The Dreamland Chronicles—an award-winning, all-ages fantasy online serialized story written and illustrated in colorful CGI style by Scott Christian Sava—is being published by IDW in a new monthly format!
With over 6 million fans and 100,000 hits a day on the daily site www.thedreamlandchronicles.com, the fantasy story has captured the hearts of young and old worldwide.
Dreamland tells the story of Alexander Carter and his discovery of a necklace that takes him to a magical world of his childhood dreams. There he finds danger, adventure, and romance. Every night he enters Dreamland, a world filled with Dragons, Fairies, and Giants. Reunited with his childhood friends Paddington, Kiwi, and Nastajia. Alexander embarks on a quest to save Dreamland from war with the nightmare realm.
The debut issue features a cover image by the late Mike Wieringo. Subsequent covers for the series will come from folks like Hero Bear’s Mike Kunkel, Frank Cho, and the great Jerry Bingham.
“With over 700 pages already complete… I guess retailers don’t have to worry about late comics for about 3 years,” joked Sava. “Seriously, though, bringing All Ages titles to comic retailers is something we all should be pursuing vigorously. I’m so proud that IDW is taking this to heart and helping bring back some of that good old fashioned ADVENTURE back into comic shops.”
Earlier in 2008, IDW announced that Christian Scott Sava’s Blue Dream Studios would become an imprint of IDW Publishing. Awarded Best Graphic Novel of 2007 in CBR’s 25th Annual Fan Award reader, The Dreamland Chronicles is the first of the titles from Blue Dream Studios to be published.

THE DOCTOR IS BACK IN
IDW’S NEW DR. WHO: THE FORGOTTEN MINISERIES LAUNCHES IN AUGUST
(San Diego, July 7, 2008) Fans of IDW’s first Doctor Who miniseries featuring the Tenth Doctor had one constant request -- give us the past Doctors, too. In August, they’ll get their wish Tenfold, on the pages of Doctor Who: The Forgotten.
This new series not only finds a clever way to present a story featuring all of the Doctor’s incarnations, but it also features award-winning artist Pia Guerra in her first regular assignment since the acclaimed Y, The Last Man series came to a close.
Doctor Who: The Forgotten is a six-part tale written by Tony Lee (Starship Troopers) and featuring resident Doctor Who expert and colorist Charlie Kirchoff (Doctor Who Classic, Doctor Who: Agent Provocateur) adding hues to Guerra’s linework. Artist Nick Roche will again provide covers for IDW’s Doctor Who series.
In Doctor Who: The Forgotten, Dr. Who finds himself stranded in a strange Museum that’s dedicated to him; and with no TARDIS in sight. The Doctor and Martha must make sense of their surroundings, hindered by one small fact… the Doctor has lost his memories of every one of his previous incarnations! With items relevant to each Doctor in their possession, The Doctor must try to use them to regain his memories before it’s too late.
In the popular Doctor Who novel “The Eight Doctors,” writer Terrance Dick, of whom Tony Lee is a great fan, re-visited previous incarnations of the Doctor in the midst of adventures from the original series. In IDW’s Doctor Who: The Forgotten, Lee decided to take the alternate route and create all new adventures for the classic Doctors. “Although it's always nice to revisit old friends,” Lee says, “I think we can give more 'forgotten tales' in these short flashbacks. We have the First Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan meeting Egyptians; we have the Second, Jamie and Zoe meeting space lizards; the Third, Jo and The Brigadier defeating aliens on Dartmoor; the Fourth and Romana in millennium Paris; the Fifth, Tegan and Turlough facing a more recent addition in a Village cricket match; the Sixth and Peri in a courtroom; the Seventh and Ace in an alien war torn city; the Eighth alone in a Count of Monte Cristo setting; and the Ninth and Rose in the trenches of World War I. And every single one of them has been an utter joy to write.”
The creative partnership between Lee and artist Pia Guerra was initiated after they met recently at the Earls Court VIP launch of the Doctor Who Exhibition. In a pub afterwards, they talked about what their favorite episodes were and how they wished certain characters could work great in a story together. “We formed a strong bond that day, I feel” Lee said.
Lee added, “The funniest thing is that in the UK I say I'm writing this book and suddenly everyone's excited. In the US, I talk about the books to nods, and when I mention Pia -- that's when the squeals start.”
Doctor Who: The Forgotten #1 (JUN08 4045) will arrive in mid-August. Doctor Who: Agent Provocateur TPB (JUN08 4047), collecting the first IDW miniseries, will be available in August as well.

“WOLVERINE” IS BACK:
IDW RELEASES CLASSIC AMERICAN FRONTIER ADVENTURE SERIES –
MESSNER-LOEBS’ JOURNEY, VOL. 1
(San Diego, July 7, 2008) A classic American adventure series from Eisner nominee William Messner-Loebs, Journey introduced the world to 19th century trapper and guide, Joshua “Wolverine” McAlistaire. The series’ 31 issues followed McAlistaire as he walked across the untamed wilderness of what would one day become Michigan, crossing paths and sharing adventures with an ever-growing cast of both real-life and fictional characters.
Journey takes place as America recovers from the Revolution and braces for the upheaval of the War of 1812. The result is an absorbing account of life on the 19th century frontier—sometimes fantastic, such as when McAlistaire gets a free ride on a tornado, and sometimes harshly realistic (when he gets chased by a hungry black bear). McAlistaire endures every imaginable hazard, encountering Indians, German poets, Sasquatch, and even talking spirits of the long dead.
Both written and drawn by Bill Messner-Loebs, Journey has a unique style. As one Publishers’ Weekly review puts it: “Messner-Loebs’ laid back prose style… sounds like a yard told round the campfire and echoes aspects of American literature from the era he’s evoking. …The humor is dry and the artwork is evocative of Will Eisner in use of facial expression and of backgrounds that are at once stark and detailed.”
“I tried to give a funny, serious, realistic and surreal take on the era,” according to Mr. Messner-Loebs. “My feeling was life is all those things and as a comic reflects that the reader is drawn into it. A spy story needs to be tightly plotted; a frontier saga, or my frontier saga at any rate, should have as little conventional plot as possible. Since the land beyond civilization is freeform, the story you tell should reflect that. I had homesteaded along the Canadian border in Maine for a year and I tried to get the things I had experienced there into the story. I think I got a little serious and complicated towards the end. Of course I was drawing it in hospitals, waiting for both my mother and my wife to die.”
IDW’s re-presentation of this comics classic includes issues #1–16, as well as an introduction by Eisner-winning writer/artist Sam Kieth, Messner-Loebs’ partner on The Maxx. Look for Journey, Vol. 1 in stores this August.
TPB • B&W • 424 pages • 6.625” x 10.187” • $19.99 • ISBN: 978-1-60010-191-5

Terminal Press Officially Announces "HARD/CORE"
Long Beach, NY -- July 1, 2008 - While it's been talked about since the debut of "Debbie Does Dallas" at the 2008 Adult Entertainment Expo, Terminal Press has now officially announced their "HARD/CORE" line of artistic reinterpretations of iconic adult cinema along with the first details and images from "Deep Throat," "Candy Stripers," "The Devil in Miss Jones" and "Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here."
Terminal Press, in association with Arrow Productions, assembled five talented and diverse creative teams to tackle five of Adult Cinema's most well-known brands with the goal of updating and re-imagining them into unique, high-quality comic books, relevant to today's audiences. These
non-pornographic, but still mature-reader titles take the characters and concepts from the original films and throw them into new scenarios with new twists and creative spins that will surely surprise audiences while still retaining the elements that made them classics in the first place.
"Deep Throat" is a campy spy thriller by writer Keith McCleary, artist Alex Reigel and colorist Narek Gevorgian. "Candy Stripers" is a dark fairy tale by writer Brian Ferrara, artist Garrett Eisenheim and colorist Adam Street. "The Devil in Miss Jones" is a horror title by writer Christopher E. Long, artist Ken Knudtsen and colorist Narek Gevorgian. "Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here" is a noir crime drama by writer Tony Fleecs, colorist Narek Gevorgian,
with the artist still to be announced (promo art by Seth Frail).
"Working on these iconic properties with the freedom we've been given has been inspiring to everyone involved" says publisher Brian Ferrara. "Arrow metaphorically dumped out the toy box in front of us and just let us play- I think that fun and excitement comes across in each of these titles."
More in-depth information and previews from each title will be released in the coming weeks, along with news relating to television and toys as well.
"Debbie Does Dallas" is already available at terminalpress.com. "DeepThroat" and "Candy Stripers" will debut at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con on July 24th. "The Devil in Miss Jones" and "Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here" will debut this fall. A collected edition titled "HARD/CORE" containing all of the stories plus bonus material will be available in the winter. The
Limited Edition printings will only be available through terminalpress.com and Terminal Press' convention appearances.

Sequart.org is excited to announce that a 2nd edition of its first book, GRANT MORRISON: THE EARLY YEARS, is now available exclusively through PREVIEWS (order code JUL084473).
If you missed out last year, now is the perfect time to buy THE EARLY YEARS because available only through PREVIEWS is this 2ND EDITION, revised and including a newly added essay about a Morrison's very first story for 2000AD.
Grant Morrison redefined comics in the late 1980s and early 1990s from his trailblazing creation of ZENITH, through his metatextual innovations on ANIMAL MAN, to his Dadaist super-heroics in DOOM PATROL. Along the way, he explored the Batman mythos with his multilayered masterpiece ARKHAM ASYLUM and the literary GOTHIC storyline.
According to the book's author, Timothy Callahan, "the book explores the unifying themes of Morrison's early work, providing a close analysis of stylistic and structural techniques. Morrison is arguably the greatest comic book writer in history, and this book attempts to explain why."
GRANT MORRISON: THE EARLY YEARS (softcover, 6x9 in, 280pgs, B&W) examines five of Morrison's works in detail. Using plain language, Callahan opens up Morrison's sometimes difficult texts and expands the reader's appreciation of their significance, creating a study accessible to both Grant Morrison aficionados and those new to his work. An extended interview with Morrison on his early career rounds out the volume.
"The book has already garnered considerable attention online and at April's New York Comic-Con," says Publisher Julian Darius. "Callahan [also a ComicBookResources.com reviewer] has been repeatedly praised in reviews of the book," Darius reveals, "and cover artist Kevin Colden has been in the news for receiving – and declining – a Xeric grant."
The book is the first in the new line of books from Sequart Research & Literacy Organization, a non-profit devoted to the study and promotion of comic books as a legitimate art.
MAKE SURE TO TELL YOUR LOCAL COMIC STORE OWNER TO ORDER ONE FOR YOU! (Once again, our book's PREVIEWS order code is JUL084473.)

MySpace Dark Horse Presents turns one year old!
One year ago, Dark Horse partnered with premier social networking site, MySpace, to make publishing history by relaunching the company’s flagship anthology title, Dark Horse Presents. To
celebrate the anniversary we return with some of the key players who helped launch the series online.
Gerard Way and Gabriel Bä take their smash hit The Umbrella Academy in a new direction, with a short story delving into the team's teen years, when Vanya and The Kraken kicked out the jams in their punk band, The Prime-8’s. Last year’s MDHP #1 saw the debut of Joss
Whedon’s Eisner-nominated feature “Sugarshock.” One year later, Joss returns along with his brother Zack with an exclusive comics tie in to Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog, their much talked about series of upcoming musical webisodes. This eight page feature introduces the world to Captain Hammer, Dr. Horrible’s squeaky clean arch enemy. And celebrated low-brow artist Tara McPherson joins the fold with a hauntingly beautiful tale, “How to Heal a Broken Heart.”
Each month a newcomer to the comics industry, a previously unpublished writer or artist, debuts on MDHP. Issue #12 features artist Steven Young, who teams with John Arcudi (B.P.R.D.) in a
western tale full of subtlety, horror, and intrigue.
“Ever since the original DHP was canceled, I've been trying to bring it back, because I love anthologies, love the absolute liberty it gives you to try new things” says editor Scott Allie. “Hellboy Weird Tales was an attempt to rekindle that, The Dark Horse Books of Hauntings, etc., was also an attempt, but MDHP is the real thing. It gives us the flexibility to jazz around as much as we want to.” He continued, “with the sorts of creators we're working with these days, it's essential to have a place to do this. And with so many amazing people showing their stuff off online, it's great to know that there's something to throw their way as well.”
MySpace Dark Horse Presents is a free online anthology that provides fresh content the first Wednesday of every month, with stories archived so that it's never too late to join in and catch up. To find out more, check out:

IDW to publish deluxe collection of
Scorchy Smith and the Art of Noel Sickles
(San Diego, June 19) - IDW Publishing has announced the publication of a deluxe 394-page hardcover collecting the entire run (1933-1936) of groundbreaking artist Noel Sickles on the Scorchy Smith comic strip. The latest addition to The Library of American Comics, an IDW imprint, Scorchy Smith and the Art of Noel Sickles is edited and designed by Dean Mullaney, whose work on The Complete Terry and the Pirates has earned him two 2008 Eisner Award nominations. The title will be released July 30, 2008.
During the three years that Noel Sickles wrote and illustrated Scorchy Smith, he revolutionized the field when he moved away from the heavy black outlines predominant in the comic strips of the day. He adopted storytelling techniques from the motion pictures, while relying on brushwork to create a looser, chairoscuro representation of people, action, and scenery. Pete Hamill observed, "Sickles was the first artist to use the brush boldly, in an impressionistic way."
"Scorchy Smith became a primer from which a multitude of comic book and strip artists cribbed mercilessly for decades," writes Jim Steranko in his introduction to the book. Longtime Spider-Man artist John Romita Sr. says, "The whole industry was copying from Sickles."
Created in 1930 by John Terry (the brother of animator Paul Terry of Terrytoons fame) in the wake of Lindbergh's crossing of the Atlantic and the rising popularity of aviation, Scorchy Smith was one of those typical 1930s aviation adventure strips until illness forced Terry to quit the strip in 1933 and the little known Sickles took over.
Born in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1910, Noel Douglas Sickles was a primarily self-taught artist who produced political cartoons for the Ohio State Journal while still in his teens. He moved to New York to work as an Associated Press staff artist in 1933. After blazing a trail through the comics world, Sickles left both comics and the AP in 1936 to launch a 40-year career as one of America’s most successful magazine illustrators. A regular at Life, The Saturday Evening Post, and Reader’s Digest, his work also appeared in Look, National Geographic, and countless other publications. During World War II, his ability to accurately depict enemy aircraft, ships, and tanks in realistic illustrations made him a valuable commodity for the U.S. War Department. Sickles won the National Cartoonist Society’s Advertising and Illustration Award in both 1960 and 1962. He eventually settled in Tucson, Arizona and turned to painting, winning further acclaim for his Western canvases.
In addition to every panel that Sickles drew for the strip, Scorchy Smith and the Art of Noel Sickles contains 140 pages of Sickles’s bravura illustrations for stories by Hemingway, Michener, Solzhenitsyn, and Faulkner; his important World War II drawings for the U.S. military; and the first biography, by Bruce Canwell, of the artist who helped changed the face of 20th-Century illustration

SPIKE EXPERIENCES ALL OF THE HELL, NONE OF THE ANGELS
SPIKE: AFTER THE FALL PREQUEL MINISERIES RELEASES IN JULY
(San Diego, June 19, 2008) In IDW’s smash-hit series Angel: After the Fall, all of the characters who survived the melee that concluded Joss Whedon’s fan-favorite TV series have had to find their way in a Los Angeles cast into hell. As befit his character, the vampire Spike seemed to have it all at the start—he was set up in a certain Beverly Hills mansion, surrounded by a cadre of female warriors and Illyria, too. But it wasn’t always so easy for him, as fans will see come this July.
Spike: After the Fall is a four-part series beginning next month, and it tells the tale of what happened in the intervening months since that alleyway cataclsym. Along for the ride in this series are Illyria, who has a tendency to revert back to Fred at inopportune times, as well as Angel’s Dragon, and a new cast of characters as well. Most importantly, the series introduces a character who will come to be see as Spike’s arch-nemesis. Even more than Angel, we mean.
Presiding over the series will be Angel: After the Fall writer Brian Lynch and artist Franco Urru, who provides two special first-issue Spike covers offered in a 50/50 ratio—one featuring Spike’s human face, one in all its vamped-out fury! Aussie art team The Sharp Brothers offer a special “grindhouse”-inspired incentive cover, too!
About the overall “After the Fall” arc, writer Lynch said “Joss laid the groundwork with me, a very specific outline, and now I'm carrying it out. He did the heavy-lifting in the beginning, and now I'm the spokesman, I'm the mouthpiece.
“I cannot express how great this is coming out. I didn't want to dilute Angel: After the Fall or the previous Urru/Lynch Spike tales,” he continued, “so we didn't plan this until we saw whether or not it would work. It worked. It works soooo well. This is gonna be goooood. All the hell! None of the Angels!”
Spike: After the Fall #1 (Diamond Order Code MAY08 3932) will be in stores on July 16, as will the first hardcover collection of Angel: After the Fall.

IDW RELEASES THE TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON #1
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE DECEPTICONS TAKE OVER?
(San Diego, June 18, 2008) If you’ve ever wondered what might happen to planet Earth without the Autobots to stand in the way of the Decepticon threat, ponder that bleak scenario no more. In July, that threat becomes dire reality in IDW’s all-new 12-part series, THE TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON.
In IDW’s long-running TRANSFORMERS series, the Autobots have stood as the first line of defense against these malevolent Robots in Disguise. Now, in ALL HAIL MEGATRON, the Decepticons run amok on our world, causing untold damage and taking over completely. And the Autobots are… nowhere to be found?
ALL HAIL MEGATRON, written by Shane McCarthy and featuring art by Guido Guidi, presents an epic tale that sets the series in an all-new direction. Both accessible to new fans and appealing to longtime fans who’ve wondered about just such a doomsday scenario, the series is an action-movie spectacle on paper. Will Earth survive? What happened to the Autobots? These questions and many others will be answered throughout the course of this series.
As for its appeal to new fans, well, all you need to concern yourself with, according to writer Shane McCarthy, are “some very simple things. There is an ancient race of giant robots that are embroiled in a very old civil war; there are two factions to this civil war, the Deceptions (bad guys) and the Autobots (good guys); this civil war is raging across the galaxy on many different fronts; the war has found its way to our home planet.” And now one of these factions is missing.
Fan-favorite Transformers artist Guido Guidi will be bringing McCarthy’s scripts alive on the page. “Translating all this visually is an amazing challenge for an artist, but Shane’s input and vision really inspired and helped raise the bar.”
“I'm sure this book is going to please old fans and new readers as well,” Guidi says. “We have an intriguing and dramatic story, plus tons of Transformers action featuring classic characters pushed to the edge of new, extreme, and never explored situations!”
It’s an adventure not to be missed. If you do, according to McCarthy, “you’ll be missing out on something only comics can really translate; a good, knock ‘em down, drag ‘em out ‘war’ between giant robots that’ll tear cities apart, bring down countries and make you look forward to walking into your local comic-book store.”
The Transformers: All Hail Megatron will be published in full-color, 32-page, monthly installments. Issue 1 (Diamond order code MAY08 3943) features covers by Klaus Scherwinski and Trevor Hutchison and will be in stores on July 9, 2008.

"Killing Tree Quarterly" Now Available to Read Online
Long Beach, NY -- June 17, 2008 - Curious fans wanting to check out Terminal Press' latest limited run title, Keith McCleary's "Killing Tree Quarterly," won't have to wait for the book at one of TP's remaining convention stops this summer. The first 12 pages of the 50-page one-shot can now be read as an online sampler at Keith's own website, www.killingtreequarterly.com.
The pages collect the one-shot's first story, "Rustlers!", and serve both as an introduction to the book as well as to Keith's detailed, high-contrast artwork and his ear for seedy, tongue-in-cheek Western dialogue.
Set in northern California at the turn of the century, "Killing Tree Quarterly" follows a gang of multicultural assassins (a Chinese-American, a Nez Perce Indian, a retired whore and an independently wealthy black teenager) as they cut a swath of terror through the West, "Stealin'
everything and killin' folk. Mainly killin'." Organized into a series of short stories, the one-shot experiments with style and shifting narrators to tell its tale of blood and gunfighting on the American frontier.
Keith is no stranger to the presentation of his work on the web. "Killing Tree Quarterly" began as a self-published, work-in-progress webcomic in 2007, earning accolades from the popular DrunkDuck.com webcomic community throughout its online run. The finished work has only been available in print form for most of 2008 (available at Terminal Press convention appearances and online at terminalpress.com), but now returns to its online version to help new readers discover the title during the '08 convention season.
In addition to KTQ, Keith has also taken on writing duties for Terminal Press' "Deep Throat," part of the company's Hard/Core line of titles premiering this July at the San Diego Comic Con.

Knudtsen, writer and artist of TP classic "Crowpsy / Rufus & Cleveland," the recently sold-out "I Hate Zombies" and the upcoming "The Devil in Miss Jones" will be at the Epic Proportions booth with artist Jerry Ma (Burn, Silent Assassin: 506). If fans were able to snatch any of these titles at

IDW PUBLISHING HIRES NEW SENIOR EDITOR
Andy Schmidt joins the IDW Team
San Diego, CA (June 4, 2008)—IDW Publishing is pleased to announce the addition of the newest member to the IDW team. Andy Schmidt has come onboard as the new Senior Editor. Andy will serve as a leader helming several licensed properties but also developing new projects.
Andy started his comics editing career with Marvel Comics under Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, where he quickly rose from assistant to full editor helming such projects as X-Men, X-Factor, Ms. Marvel, and Annihilation. He left Marvel in June of last year to launch his own successful comics-teaching business called Comics Experience and started freelance writing. His combination of skills makes him the perfect candidate for the Senior Editor position at IDW.
“What started as a casual conversation between Chris Ryall and myself about how we approach editing quickly became a job interview. My background is in editing, writing and teaching and Chris liked that combo—thought I’d bring a different voice to my projects,” Schmidt recalls. “Chris introduced me to Ted Adams and the three of us hit it off. IDW is in the storytelling business and has a rich history of exceptional comics created by exceptional creators. I’m glad to be a part of it!”
“Andy’s creative approach to the titles he works on, coupled with their sales success as well as his reputation amongst the creators he’s worked with all mark him as one of the best editors in this business,” said IDW’s Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “I’m looking forward to putting Andy’s many strengths to good use here. He’s going to be a great addition to the team, which is ultimately going to be a huge boon for fans of our comics, too.”
Look for further announcements about Andy’s particular projects in the weeks ahead.

Writer Brian Ferrara, colorist Narek Gevorgian and Russ Manning nominated artist Rolo Ledesma were on hand signing "Debbie Does Dallas" and doing sketches of the heroine for the fans. Joining them was Keith McCleary, writer of the upcoming "Deep Throat" comic and TP's newest creator-owned book, "Killing Tree Quarterly."
Fans unable to attend the show may have missed their chance to grab a first-run copy of the popular "I Hate Zombies," by writer and artist Ken Knudtsen, who is also handling the art duties on the upcoming "The Devil in Miss Jones" title. TP's final copies of the book's first printing were gone by the end of the day Sunday, but a second printing is "in the works," according to Ferrara.
Look for the Terminal Press booth to rear its misshapen head next at the mother-of-'em-all, Comic Con International in San Diego, booth #1221.

IDW releases the latest Wormwood collection from Eisner Award-nominee
Ben Templesmith
(San Diego, June 3) Ben Templesmith’s love affair with tentacles continues. Wormwood, the English-accented, beer-drinking, sentient corpse possessing a “maggot expat from the Hell dimension,” returns in Wormwood: Calamari Rising (TPB), a deluxe collection of the acclaimed four-issue miniseries from IDW Publishing. The volume, sporting an all-new cover from the Eisner-nominated Templesmith, will be in stores June 4.
“Some say Wormwood is rather autobiographical,” says Templesmith, “though for me, it’s more about the British sense of humor in the stuff I grew up with, like Doctor Who, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and Blackadder as well as a healthy fetish with monsters, putting them in a blender and seeing what comes out.”
If Wormwood is not attempting to save Earth from demonic, parasitic fungal infections or undead strippers, then he's usually off drinking with his homemade mechanical sidekick, Mr. Pendulum.
Just when Wormwood thought he could finally have that quiet drink without worrying about the world coming to an end, or a friend with a parasitic infection trying to kill him, The Brotherhood of the Calamari decide to crash the party. Since their last meeting, they've tracked him across the thousand million dimensional possibilities of existence—and this time the entire Squideeverse is with them. Wormwood is going to learn the hard way he can't keep running from his problems as his oldest foe now threatens his favorite watering hole, Earth, with absorption into the Calamari group mind.
Wormwood: Calamari Rising (order code APR08 3956, ISBN: 978-1-60010-183-0) also features an introduction by Scud: The Disposable Assassin creator Rob Schrab.

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (May 29, 2008) – Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS) has reached an agreement with IDW Publishing, creators of the best-selling TRANSFORMERS comic book series, to launch an all-new line of G.I. JOE vs. COBRA comic books. As part of the agreement, IDW will produce a new monthly comic series, as well as deluxe reprints of the G.I. The first products from this deal, a new monthly comic book series based on classic G.I. JOE vs. COBRA lore, will be launched with an introductory debut issue in October 2008. Featuring all-new storylines, the comics will portray the epic struggle of the G.I. In 2009, IDW will also produce comic series both inspired by and based on the upcoming G.I. The planned IDW comic book projects will be distributed to a wide audience through comic book outlets, trade bookstores and mass retailers.
“We are thrilled at the prospect of expanding our relationship with IDW. The Complete Little Orphan Annie in stores June 11
An IDW Library of American Comics Imprint.
San Diego, CA (May 28, 2008) - Great news for fans of classic comic strips: IDW is publishing a deluxe hardcover series collecting Harold Gray's timeless newspaper strip, Little Orphan Annie. It contains more than 1000 comics and the first volume will be released in stores June 11.
An exciting addition to The Library of American Comics, an imprint of IDW Publishing, The Complete Little Orphan Annie, Vol. 1 is edited and designed by Dean Mullaney, who as founder of Eclipse Comics in 1977 became a leader of the 1980s indie comics movement. Since then, Mullaney has become a specialist in restoring and re-presenting classic American comic strips. His work on The Complete Terry and The Pirates has earned him a 2008 Eisner Award nomination.
This first volume of The Complete Little Orphan Annie—"Will Tomorrow Ever Come?"—starts at the beginning in 1924, and includes the first nine complete stories, until the end of 1927. "It's through the incredible trials and tribulations of these first three years," Mullaney says, "that Annie emerges as the kid with a heart of gold and a quick left hook."
The book also contains the first-ever detailed look at creator Harold Gray by noted comics scholar Jeet Heer. With unprecedented access to the Harold Gray Archives at Boston University, nearly every strip in the book has been reproduced from its original artwork or syndicate proof. Little Orphan Annie never looked so good.
Little Orphan Annie has become a cultural icon—in both her redheaded, blank-eyed appearance, and as the embodiment of American individuality, spunk, and self-reliance. Even those who've never read the comic strip are keenly aware of the plucky orphan, her loveable mutt Sandy, and her adoptive benefactor, Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks through the Broadway play, the hit movie, and the song "Tomorrow," made famous by both.
Harold Gray said of his famous character, "Life to her was deadly serious. She had to be hard to survive, and she meant to survive."
"With Dick Tracy, Terry & the Pirates and Little Orphan Annie, IDW has the crown jewels of the world famous Chicago Tribune comics section, making the California-based company a major player in what has become a new golden age of comic strip reprints," says ICv2.
Harold Gray was born in 1894 in Kankee, Illinois, and began his cartooning career as an assistant to Sydney Smith, creator of the famously successful strip, The Gumps. Gray wrote and illustrated Little Orphan Annie from 1924 until his death in 1968.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Mystical Parlor Games
MILWAUKIE, OR—Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising and Dark Horse Comics are proud to present two magical products that are sure to provide hours of sleepless slumber parties this fall. Joss Whedon's mythology comes alive with the official Buffy the Vampire
Slayer Tarot Deck and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Conversations with Dead People” Board!
Named for an award-winning episode from Season Seven of the BVS television series—and written by Buffy Season Eight: Wolves at the Gate author Drew Goddard—the Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Conversations with Dead People” Board is a great game for fans,
in this world and the next, to communicate with each other about life, death, and other mysteries. In the tradition of the Sunnydale Hellmouth, through which countless entities gained entry, fearless
souls can let voices from the other side guide the planchette along the board to spell out the answers to their queries. Folks can channel their inner Willow and hone their witchy skills, providing hours of fun for the whole séance! Accompanying the game board and
planchette, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer “Conversations with Dead People” Board includes an exclusive, comic-style instruction book featuring sequential art by Buffy SeasonEight guest illustrator Paul Lee!
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tarot Deck was written and conceived by renowned tarot writer Rachel Pollack, author of twelve books on the tarot, including the renowned 78 Degrees of Wisdom. She teams with long-time Buffy artist Paul Lee to create this fully painted 78-card
deck, drawing on characters, themes, and legends from all eight seasons of Whedon's masterpiece. This special deck was created by Pollack not merely as a collector's item, but as an actual, working tarot deck: the cards come with a book explaining their divinatory
meanings and use. The traditional symbols of the tarot are reinterpreted through the vision of Whedon's Buffy universe.

Summer getaways with the B.P.R.D.
With Hellboy II: The Golden Army coming in July, there’s no better time to get up to speed on what’s happening with the characters in the B.P.R.D. Dark Horse will be releasing three new B.P.R.D. titles by Mike Mignola and B.P.R.D. vet John Arcudi into the Hellboy Universe for summer reading pleasure—with new revelations for Liz Sherman and the origin story for Johann Kraus, as well as a bit of backstory for the Bureau’s battle with the infamous frog creatures.
June 5th will see the first installment of War on Frogs—a series of four one-shots that pick up from the March-April B.P.R.D. feature on MySpace Dark Horse Presents. Renowned artist Herb Trimpe (The Incredible Hulk) joins regular B.P.R.D. writer John Arcudi and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, with Guy Davis handling the inking, for the first one-shot story in this series that will feature a different legendary comics artist for each issue. War on Frogs chronicles the
Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense's fight against the frog monsters, set mostly between the events of B.P.R.D.: Plague of Frogs and B.P.R.D.: The Black Flame. As the frog cult spreads across America, Roger the Homunculus returns to the site of the B.P.R.D.'s
first clash with the frog creatures—the ruins of Cavendish Hall, where Hellboy, Abe, and Liz first encountered both the frogs and Rasputin (Hellboy: Seed of Destruction)—to track down the final
pieces of the puzzle of the Cavendish family. War on Frogs #2 is scheduled for a December release and will feature art by Eisner Hall-of-Famer John Severin (Two Fisted Tales)!
On June 18th, The Ectoplasmic Man arrives! This one-shot comic tells the origin of Johann Kraus—corresponding with Johann's appearance in Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and including previously unrevealed details of how he came to be. Mignola/Arcudi team up with illustrator
Ben Stenbeck (Living with the Dead) to round out the creative team! The Ectoplasmic Man is the ideal introduction to one of the most peculiar members of the remarkable Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense.
Finally, on July 9th, Mignola and Arcudi reunite with long-time B.P.R.D. illustrator Guy Davis for B.P.R.D: The Warning, a five-issue series that immediately follows the events of B.P.R.D.: Killing Ground The team rushes to track down the mysterious gentleman who's been
appearing in Liz's visions, as a slew of old enemies menace the Bureau from all sides in a catastrophic escalation to the end of the world.
“I’m excited,” says Mike Mignola. “B.P.R.D. is really picking up speed now. Fans can start girding their loins for big, catastrophic changes to come.”
“As many changes as we've already seen take place in the B.P.R.D.,” says John Arcudi, “now is when it really starts getting nuts!”

IDW COLLECTS JOHN BYRNE’S ACCLAIMED NEXT MEN SERIES
(San Diego, May 21, 2008) — In the 1990s, acclaimed writer/artist John Byrne created Next Men, an all-new world of superheroes. Grounded firmly in our world, with its expectations and societal norms, Byrne explored the impact such superheroes would have on the planet in a realistic way. Next Men’s 30-issue run quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed titles in his storied career.
Now, John Byrne's Next Men series is back, collected in thick, black-and-white volumes, the first one offering 400+ pages of fantastic story and art. The first, “honkin’ phonebook-sized”—so described by Byrne himself—of John Byrne’s Compleat Next Men will be in stores May 28.
In addition to the first 12-issues of Next Men, IDW Publishing’s collection of John Byrne’s Compleat Next Men, Volume 1 includes the series’ original story, the 64-page 2112 graphic novel, as well as the MIV back-up strips that ran in the original comics.
“A quick read of Next Men immediately reveals what a great storyteller Byrne is,” says Justin Eisinger, IDW’s Graphic Novel Editor. “Beyond the stunning art are developed characters and compelling plot points, making Next Men read like a modern-day Hollywood superhero blockbuster movie, only this is the series that defined the formula. And now that the book’s printed we couldn’t be happier—it looks fantastic.”
Asked about the possibility of a new Next Men series, Byrne has said, “If it looks like Next Men can be done as something other than a vanity project, I will certainly do it. The series has a definite ending—I even know the last line!—and I would very much like to shake those 20 or so issues out of my head someday!”

IDW PUBLISHING DEBUTS THE FIRST IN A NEW SERIES OF IGOR TITLES
(San Diego, May 21, 2008) On May 21st, IDW Publishing will release the first full color issue of Igor: Movie Prequel. Written Dara Naraghi (Lifelike) with art and cover by Grant Bond (Clockwork Girl), IDW’s Igor titles are an adaptation of the Exodus Film Group's upcoming CGI-animated feature, Igor, produced by the Weinstein Co. and scheduled for worldwide theatrical release October 24, 2008.
Igor: Movie Prequel is a four-issue series of all-new, original stories, which will serve as a lead-in to the movie by introducing audiences to Igor, Scamper, Brain, and all the other delightfully twisted characters from the land of Malaria.
The prequel series will be followed by a four-issue Igor movie adaptation (also helmed by Naraghi and Bond), taking fans through the film and beyond. This will be followed by a full-color paperback, collecting each miniseries.
The film is a playfully irreverent comedy that brings a new twist to the classic monster genre, and features voice work from John Cleese, John Cusack, Arsenio Hall, Eddie Izzard, and many others. In a world filled with Mad Scientists and Evil Inventions, one talented evil scientist's hunch-backed lab assistant has big dreams of becoming a Mad Scientist himself and winning the annual Evil Science Fair. The voice cast includes Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Jennifer Coolidge, John Cusack, Arsenio Hall, Sean Hayes, Eddie Izzard, Jay Leno, Molly Shannon, and Christian Slater. The film is dark and edgy, with disturbing characters like a reanimated bunny (voiced by Steve Buscemi) that longs to be dead again, and spends most of the movie trying to kill himself.
- more -
"IDW has built a name for itself by producing good horror comics and good licensed comics," said IDW's Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, Chris Ryall. "The chance to combine the two in the form of a visually rich film like 'Igor' is a perfect convergence of genres and will also appeal to younger readers."

IDW RELEASES NEW GRAPHIC WAR NOVEL – FINDING PEACE
See IDW Publishing’s video trailer for Finding Peace: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbHsuPUVgo0
(San Diego, CA; May 19, 2008) – On May 21, 2008, IDW Publishing and Charlie Foxtrot Entertainment (www.charliefoxtrotfilms.com) will release their second co-published venture, the original graphic war novel Finding Peace. The book, which includes an introductory essay by New York Times best-selling author and military historian William R. Forstchen, has already received tremendous advance praise, such as the comments from BrokenFrontier.com reviewer Dave Baxter, who says of the new ogn, “If you’ve ever admired Maus or Persepolis or Pride of Baghdad, Finding Peace is the next step, a superior work that admirably finds its place next to these, and arguably surpasses them page for page.”
Written by Tom Waltz (Children of the Grave), with art and cover by Nathan St. John, Finding Peace contains three stories, each unique and yet all connected by a single, tragic thread -- the desperate search for peace in times of both declared and undeclared war.
Set in an unnamed country ravaged by civil war, the three stories are presented in reverse chronological order, showing where things are before finally depicting where things have been. The reader will ultimately decide if the situation has improved, or whether the dangers and tragedies of civil war only wear a different mask during times of peacekeeping -- a new disguise that simply hides the same, deadly monster underneath.
“Finding Peace is the end result of nearly three years of work for Nathan and me,” explains writer Tom Waltz, who was formerly a Marine, Desert Storm vet and National Guard Military Policeman prior to his comic book career. “From a chance meeting at the 2006 Phoenix Comic-con, to a prestige graphic novel we are both very proud of, to say it’s been a fantastic journey would be a gross understatement. I know, for me, it’s been an enjoyable creative partnership from the start, and to have our stories turn out as beautifully as they have is really the icing to top it all off. I’m excited for readers to see Finding Peace, and I hope our message resonates with them as much as it does with us. These are real stories about real people in real situations, and we like to think there is something for everyone to relate within its pages.”

IDW RELEASES ALL-NEW TANK GIRL SERIES,
ACCLAIMED CREATORS OF PREVIOUS TANK GIRL SERIES RETURN WITH
VISIONS OF BOOGA MINISERIES
(San Diego, CA; May 14, 2008) – The creative team responsible for revitalizing Tank Girl in 2007 returns with an all-new miniseries, being released by IDW this month.
Writer Alan C. Martin, who co-created the property with Gorillaz artist Jamie Hewlett, has returned again to the property he revitalized in last year’s Tank Girl: The Gifting. And in the all-new Tank Girl: Visions of Booga debuting this month, he’s again joined by his collaborators on The Gifting, artist Rufus Dayglo, and cover artist Ashley Wood.
In Visions of Booga, Part 1: Falling Angel Blues, which will arrive in comics shops on May 21, Tank Girl and her marsupial boyfriend Booga find themselves the victims of the worst run of bad luck ever. The tank has been lost in a wager and the Australian Mafia are after their pelts. Their only hope seems to lie on the other side of the country, with Booga’s estranged little brother. A transcontinental Kerouackian odyssey begins.
Visions of Booga, Part 1, Falling Angel Blues is written by Scottish Borders-based writer Martin, with Dayglo (Snaked) handling interior art duties this time around and acclaimed designer/award-winning artist Ashley Wood providing wraparound covers for all four issues.
“In Visions Of Booga, we are returning to our Beat Generation roots,” said Martin. “We’ve given ourselves a lot more space with the story in this time, running one long epic over the series, which has given the characters the chance to breathe and us the chance to use much broader strokes. There’s still a silly four- or five-page back story at the end of each issue, but the main story is more like a novel. Actually, there is a novel within the story, so it’s a novel within a novel… er… within a comic.”
Tank Girl, Visions of Booga #1 (MAR08 3769), 32 pages, $3.99, to be released in May 2008.

IDW’s Star Trek: Second Stage continues, as veteran comic artist John Byrne unveils the first-ever Star Trek series of his decades-spanning career! Spinning out of the 1968 Star Trek TV episode “Assignment Earth,” was intended by Gene Roddenberry as the pilot for a spin-off series that never came to pass, Byrne’s new series presents the series that never was, in print.
The Star Trek “Assignment Earth” episode introduced intergalactic super-spy Gary Seven, Roberta Lincoln, and Seven’s cat and partner Isisa. (Actors Robert Lansing, Teri Garr and Victoria Vetri played the TV roles in the original). The crew from the Starship: Enterprise time warped back to 1968 where Kirk, Spock and the others encountered Seven.
Now Byrne brings the late Roddenberry’s dream to life, delivering the series 40 years after it would have debuted, recounting the adventures of interstellar agent Seven and his Earth-born assistant as they “covertly confront threats to the past so that they can save Star Trek’s future.”
Byrne, a highly regarded comic book veteran and avowed Star Trek fan, will both write and draw the Assignment Earth series for IDW, which steps one year forward with each issue, beginning with 1968, the year that the spin-off series would have appeared. It will be his first full Star Trek series, following on the heels of his debut Trek comic for IDW, the Star Trek Alien Spotlight: Romulans one-shot (which will get a sequel of its own from Byrne this Fall).
“In addition to John’s ability to tell a great comic book story through his writing and art, he respects the Star Trek source material, all of which has led to one of the most fun Trek series we’ve done so far,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, “And the best part is his handling of the Gary Seven character, who was set up to be a fun, time-traveling James Bond type. Finally, forty years later, he gets his proper due.”
Star Trek: Assignment Earth #1 (MAR08 3767), 32 pages, to be released in May 2008.

Dark Horse Comics proudly announces the arrival of a most peculiar graphic novel experience -- Larry Marder's Beanworld!
Beanworld has captivated readers from grade school to grad school since its first publication as a series of comic books in the 1980s. Starting in early 2009, Dark Horse will present Beanworld as a series of affordable graphic novels collecting all existing Beanworld stories, with new material to follow in the same format, beginning with the all new graphic novel Remember Here When You Are There! To whet the appetite of new and loyal fans alike, Dark Horse will also release an all new Beanworld webcomic this Fall, with a full color Beanworld comic book to follow in time for the holidays!
Series creator Larry Marder explains, "Beanworld is about the affinity of life. It's like A Bugs Life meets Mutts, as told by Dr. Seuss & Joseph Campbell. It's a weird fantasy dimension that operates under its own rules and laws, but also reflects deep truths about our world in doing so. All the characters, whether they are friends or adversaries, understand that ultimately they depend on each other for survival. Beanworld isn't a place, it's a process, and I can't wait to share that process with a new generation of readers!"
"I couldn't be happier to welcome Larry Marder's wonderful stories home here at Dark Horse! I've always felt this is where they belonged, and I'm thrilled to be bringing them to today's readers," says Dark Horse President, Mike Richardson. "Wahoolazuma! Larry Marder's personal Look-See Show is back on the boards! Beanworld is simply a joyous experience," said editor Diana Schutz, "total eye-candy, and it's good for you, too!"
"When Beanworld was first published, many people said it was ahead of its time," Marder says. "Looking at today's world raised on Pixar, Cartoon Network, and manga, I think it's fair to say that Beanworld's time has come. I'm looking forward to working closely with the team at Dark Horse to introduce the Beanworld to this comics-literate world!" Look for Beanworld adventures, new and old, in the coming year!
